Research commissioned by Anglia Ruskin University estimates that in all, 217 million people were living with severe or moderate visual impairment in 2015 and the number of people with visual impairment is set to triple by 2050. With increase in average life expectancy, the demand from geriatric population for the treatment of leading eye disorders such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy is likely to increase, necessitating intense research efforts to meet the growing need.
